Junghans Max Bill Regulator Bauhaus - 27/4493.02

Distinctive and wonderfully unconventional, the Junghans max bill Regulator Bauhaus (ref. 27/4493.02) reimagines how time is read. A central minute hand takes center stage while the hours and seconds move on their own separate displays, all set on a matt white dial with luminous dots and matt silver hands accented in Bauhaus red, plus a date shown in red.

The self-winding J800.5 movement powers this regulator layout with up to 38 hours of power reserve and can be seen through a printed glass case back, secured by four screws, with a partially transparent Bauhaus logo. The matt stainless steel case measures 40mm by 10.9mm and is crowned with a domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. A black leather strap with a matt stainless steel buckle and 5 bar water resistance complete an automatic watch that is as intriguing as it is elegant.

Timepiece History

Junghans traces its roots to 1861, when Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law set up a workshop in Schramberg, in Germany's Black Forest, to make components for clocks, and the first complete Junghans clocks followed in 1866. By 1903, Junghans had become the world's largest watch factory, and in 1918 Arthur Junghans completed the nine-tier Terrassenbau, a terraced factory designed to bring daylight to every workplace that now houses the Junghans Terrassenbau Museum. Owned by the Steim family since 2009, Junghans still crafts its watches in Schramberg.

From 1961, the former Bauhaus student Max Bill designed Junghans' wristwatches, after first creating a kitchen clock for the company in the early 1950s. The max bill Regulator keeps the series' familiar face, with a typography created especially for these models, and adopts the classic regulator layout, in which a central minute hand is separated from the hour and seconds displays. As one of the Bauhaus editions, it pairs that layout with red accents and a partially transparent Bauhaus logo on the case back.
